Abilities
Hiccup is highly intelligent, with a great aptitude for inventing and mechanical engineering. He is admittedly limited by the level of technology that he's familiar with - being a Viking, more modern technologies are alien to him - but he's shown an ability to understand and develop his own technologies, such as when he builds and refines Toothless's artificial tailfin, or when he builds the siege weapon that took down Toothless in the first place. He gets the skills and ability to actually build his inventions from his role as a blacksmith's apprentice - so in addition to his own inventions, Hiccup is also very knowledgeable about smithing, weapons and armour crafting, and weapons maintenance.
He's also very observant - he gained considerable knowledge about dragons just from watching and interacting with Toothless. That knowledge he was then able to apply to other dragons. He's methodical, using logic and reason to work his way through problems.
Hiccup also does have a decent ability at drawing - he's nothing spectacular, but he can make a pretty accurate representation of what he observes in real life. But for Hiccup drawing isn't really about art: he uses it more for technical drawings and for recording, rather than for making anything that's meant to be artistic.
He does have some aptitude for leadership and strategy, as shown by when he's able to come up with and co-ordinate a plan to defeat the Green Death with his friends. He's not really a charismatic leader, but if people are willing to follow him he's very capable of taking their strengths and weaknesses and putting them to good use.
However, when it comes to fighting, Hiccup is pretty much useless.
